Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda delighted the internet by sharing the story of a baby elephant’s heartwarming reunion with its mother after a dramatic rescue from an abandoned well.

In a post on X, Nanda shared pictures and videos of the incident, detailing the rescue of Chhotu, the calf who accidentally fell into the well.

Authorities rushed to the spot to save Chhotu. While field staff constructed a ramp to allow the baby elephant to climb out, its mother remained nearby, vigilantly guarding her calf. As soon as Chhotu walked out of the well, it rushed to its mother.

“Chotu fell into an abandoned well,” Nanda wrote in his post, adding: “While field staff started making a ramp, the mother kept guard all along. The calf came out and immediately rushed to the mother. After the reunion, the mother thanked the saviors.”
