KUCHING (Nov 20): Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) has unveiled a strategic collaboration with Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB), Zecon Berhad (Zecon), and Global Network Inc. (GNI) to jointly develop and invest in the Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP).

SDEC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani witnessed the Signing and Exchange Ceremony of Strategic Collaboration Agreement on Tuesday.

The signatories were PHB group managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit, SDEC CEO

Datuk Sudarnoto Osman, GNI executive director Devid H Gubiani, and Zecon group managing director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

Commenting on the agreement, Morshidi said that the collaboration marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Sarawak, as it moves towards a more sustainable and digitally-driven future.

“I believe that by harnessing cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions, we are on the right track to accelerate economic growth, enhance environmental stewardship, and improve the quality of life for the people of Sarawak,” he said in a press statement.

SDEC said the partnership represents a significant milestone in Sarawak’s pursuit to establish itself as a regional leader in green technologies and digital infrastructure.

“KPGTP will be a model for future developments, integrating environmental sustainability with technological innovation.

“The agreement aims to leverage the expertise, resources, and networks of the four partners to develop and invest in a sustainable, high-tech township in Sarawak, integrating state-of-the-art infrastructure with green technologies to foster innovation and economic growth while contributing to Sarawak’s long-term sustainability goals,” said the corporation.

Currently in its first phase of development, KPGTP is also in the process of securing the status of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Malaysia Digital Cybercity (MDC), both of which are crucial for attracting significant foreign direct investment (FDI) to Sarawak.

SDEC will play a central role in integrating the digital infrastructure necessary for KPGTP to thrive as a hub for modern industries as well as ensuring the park is equipped with advanced digital solutions.

As part of SDEC’s initiatives to attract data centre investments in alignment with the Post-Covid 19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), this effort is a key step in advancing Sarawak’s digital infrastructure and fostering economic growth.

KPGTP will be a 3,000-acre facility powered by a 300MW solar farm.

Designed to be a cutting-edge hub for green industries, advanced technologies, and sustainable development, it is located next to the Demak Laut Industrial Park and Senari Port.
