MIRI (Sept 22): Baram youths, especially those residing in urban areas, should enhance their educational knowledge to help them secure better career prospects, said Datuk Dennis Ngau.

The Telang Usan assemblyman said by furthering their education and continuously improving their knowledge, they would be able to achieve significantly more in life, thus enabling them to live comfortably.

“For example, if you currently hold a certificate, you should try to further your studies and aim to be a diploma holder. If you’re already a diploma holder, try to be a degree holder and then a master’s holder.

“By achieving a high level of education, you will stand out amongst the competition and can easily secure a comfortable job,” he said.

Dennis said this when officiating at the launch of the Kelab Sukan Rekreasi Baram (KSRB) futsal and badminton tournament, held here recently in connection with Malaysia Day.

Moreover, he advised Baram youths to not get involved in illicit activities such as drugs, as this would ruin their chance of being successful in life.

“Please take advantage of all the opportunities provided by the Sarawak government to improve yourself and your surroundings. The government is always opening opportunities for our youths, be it in education or business.

“These are high-income jobs created by our government. Thus, our youths from Baram must be ready to compete for these opportunities in their city,” he said.

On the tournament, Dennis praised KSRB for organising the tournament, aiming to promote health among youths from Baram.

The futsal tournament saw Sri Berjaya emerge as champions among 21 participating teams, while DID Miri was the winner of the badminton tournament.

On hand to present prizes to the winning teams was Councillor Robert Oyo Ing Emang.

Also present was Dennis’ wife Datin Debbie Irang Ajang and KSRB chairman Nicholas Tingang.
