Aaron Rodgers' future with the New York Jets appears to be in doubt as the franchise is reportedly considering moving on from the veteran quarterback after two seasons

Aaron Rodgers' position within the New York Jets may not be as secure as he thinks.

With Rodgers at the helm, the Jets have had a tough season, with a 3-7 record in the 2024 NFL season. In an effort to salvage the campaign, the Jets brought in star wideout Davante Adams and sacked head coach Robert Saleh, but these moves haven't worked out as hoped.

Given the Jets' struggles this year, there's speculation that they might look for a change after two disappointing years with Rodgers as quarterback. If the season doesn't improve, reports suggest Rodgers could be on his way out.

According to The Athletic, whispers are circulating that Rodgers, head coach Jeff Ulbrich and general manager Joe Douglas are all under review, though no decisions have been made. Reports also suggest that Rodgers' status as the team's starting quarterback next season is uncertain.

It's worth noting that Rodgers turns 41 in December and isn't due any guaranteed money in 2025. If the Jets decide to keep the former Super Bowl champion, they'll pay him a $35 million option bonus along with a $2.5 million salary. However, if they part ways, the Jets would face $49 million in dead cap.

If the Jets continue on their current trajectory, they're predicted to secure the 8th spot in the 2025 NFL Draft, potentially positioning them to pick a quarterback if necessary. For now, it's unclear how New York will address what has been a lacklustre season for Rodgers and the organisation as a whole.

This development comes just days after the 40-year-old quarterback spoke about returning for the 2025 season. When asked about playing next year, Rodgers responded: "I think so, yeah."

Nevertheless, Rodgers recognises that while the Jets aren't in an ideal position after 10 games, there's still time for a comeback if everything falls into place for New York. He acknowledged that the team's turnaround hinges on his performance as the leader.

"I'm not playing as well as I would've liked to play, for sure," he said. "The beauty in this game is it's a team game. The frustrating part is that if you're a great competitor, you hold yourself to a standard that's not unrealistic, and I haven't reached that standard this year."

As the New York starter this season, Rodgers has thrown 219 completions from 351 attempts for 2,258 yards, with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions to his name. His total QBR of 52.0 places him at 24th among 32 qualified quarterbacks, highlighting a dip in form compared to his tenure with the Green Bay Packers.

Despite this, Ulbrich expressed his desire to see Rodgers return in 2025 if it aligns with the Jets' plans. "Absolutely I would," Ulbrich said to the press on Friday. "He's just so talented and he's proven over all the years just to be one of the generational players in this league. I would love for him to get an opportunity to play healthy football and see what that looks like for an entire season."
