Former captain Virat Kohli and youngster Shubman Gill were at the nets on Tuesday morning even as KL Rahul was battling it out in the middle, resisting the Australian charge on Day 4 of the third Test. Kohli and Gill made use of time to bat at the nets in an extra training session at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane.

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh shed light on the additional training session arranged for the two batters. Fast bowlers, including Prasidh Krishna, were steaming in and bowling at the two batters who were determined to return to form.

"They have been hitting a lot of balls here. Why are they here? They haven't been scoring a lot of runs in this series. India need Virat and Gill to fire. It's so good to see them at the practice session even when Team India is batting out there. They are here in the nets, hitting a lot of balls. You can feel good by hitting a lot of balls. When you are not in form, you can feel better by hitting a lot of balls," Harbhajan told the broadcasters.

"I hope these practice sessions will bring what India needs in the middle," he added.

Virat Kohli's lean patch has not been because of lack of effort. The Indian batter has made it a point to have extended net sessions throughout the Test series.

Kohli looked focussed in the training session on Tuesday, a day after he was dismissed for just 3 in the first innings of the Brisbane Test. Kohli's struggle with the line outside the off-stump was exposed yet again as he went fishing for a delivery that was bowled in the 6th-7th stump line.

Kohli fell into the trap set by Josh Hazlewood, who has been able to trouble the former Indian captain with the consistently nagging line outside the off-stump.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill paid the price for playing an expansive drive early in his innings against Mitchell Starc on Day 3. Gill was dismissed for 1 off 3 balls as India's top-order was blown away in their first innings.

Gill has had his struggles outside Asia in Test cricket. Since his match-winning 91 in the iconic Gabba Test of 2021, the young batter has not hit a fifty-plus score in a Test innings in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia).
